Juniper Networks Selects Typesafe Stack for Scala and Akka
- June 25, 2012
Today we announced that Juniper Networks has selected the Typesafe Stack, including both the Scala language and Akka middleware, for use in future Juniper software technologies. The agreement includes a multi-year agreement for software licenses (including the Typesafe Console), support, maintenance, training, and consulting.
We think this commitment by Juniper is an exciting validation for Typesafe, and the broader Akka and Scala communities.
Juniper chose the Typesafe Stack for building next-generation networking products because it allows them to:
- Efficiently utilize today and tomorrow's multi-core hardware
- Boost the productivity of their software developers
- Create highly available distributed software based on Akka middleware
Will Eatherton, vice president of Engineering, Core Routing Business Unit at Juniper Networks, comments:
"The Typesafe Stack, including the Scala programming language and Akka middleware, represents a fresh approach to software development. By leveraging the Typesafe Stack, Juniper developers will be able to quickly and reliably create distributed software based on Akka middleware that can scale to take advantage of modern multi-core processors."
It’s been a busy few months at Typesafe. In addition to this Juniper announcement, we recently announced the Mark Brewer has joined Typesafe as CEO, coming from VMware/SpringSource; Typesafe was named to Gartner’s Cool Vendors in Application Development 2012; we hosted a sold-out Scala Days 2012 conference in London; and we released the Typesafe Stack 2.0 featuring Akka 2.0 and Play web framework 2.0.
It’s been a great experience working with the talented team at Juniper Networks so far. We’re looking forward to continuing this exciting collaboration.
